Fundraiser open

Help fund Cherry’s first year at university

Cherry Koe has started her Civil Engineering degree at Kasem Bundit University in Bangkok. After four years of learning with Horizon Asia and passing all four GED exams, she began university on 26 October 2026. Now we are raising 152,500 THB to fund her first year, covering admission, tuition, health insurance and her student visa.

So Cherry could start on time, Horizon Asia paid her admission, first-year tuition and health insurance (127,500 THB) from its own funds. Your gift reimburses that advance and pays for her student visa (25,000 THB). The reimbursement is part of the 152,500 THB goal, not an extra cost.

Cherry’s story

From GED to university

Celebrating Cherry’s GED with the Wonderland family on Koh Tao, September 2026.

Cherry studied English, Science, Math and Social Studies with Horizon Asia for four years. She passed all four GED subjects and was awarded her High School Equivalency Credential on 14 September 2026. Donors reached her 60,000 THB GED goal, and she did the rest.

The GED is the internationally recognised qualification that opens the door to university. Cherry has now walked through it: since 26 October 2026 she has been studying at Kasem Bundit University in Bangkok for a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering, taught in English over four years.

Cherry chose civil engineering because she wants to help build up her community back home in Myanmar one day. Alongside her own studies, she already volunteers as a teacher for younger children, so she knows what a community needs from the people who learn.

“I want to finish my GED so I can build a better future. Even if I cannot attend school, I won’t stop learning.”

What your gift can provide

  • 7,500 THB: Cherry’s health insurance for the year
  • 25,000 THB: her student visa, or the admission fee

Donations are pooled for Cherry’s first year, so the examples above show what different amounts can help provide rather than earmarking individual gifts.

Where your gift goes

  1. Reimbursing 127,500 THB that Horizon Asia has already paid from its own funds for her admission, first-year tuition and health insurance, so Cherry could start on 26 October 2026
  2. Her student visa (25,000 THB), still to be paid, so she can study in Thailand

The reimbursement is part of the 152,500 THB goal, not an additional cost. Every donation goes directly and entirely to Cherry’s education. If gifts pass the goal, the extra stays dedicated to her degree, starting with year 2.

Updates on Cherry’s studies

3 November 2026

Cherry has started university

Cherry began her Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering at Kasem Bundit University in Bangkok on 26 October 2026.

So she could start on time, Horizon Asia paid her admission, first-year tuition and health insurance, 127,500 THB in total, from its own funds. Her student visa (25,000 THB) is still to be paid. Donations to this fundraiser reimburse the advance and cover the visa: together that is the 152,500 THB goal, with the reimbursement included, not added on top.

15 October 2026

Cherry is accepted to university

Cherry has been accepted to Kasem Bundit University in Bangkok for a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering. Her first class is on 26 October 2026.

To keep her start date, Horizon Asia has paid the first instalment of 55,000 THB from its own funds. The second payment of 72,500 THB, for the rest of her first-year tuition and her health insurance, is due on 26 October, the day her classes begin. Donations to this fundraiser cover it, along with her student visa, and repay the first payment.

Questions, answered

What does this fundraiser pay for, exactly?

The 152,500 THB goal covers Cherry's first year at Kasem Bundit University: the international admission fee (25,000 THB), first-year tuition (95,000 THB), one year of health insurance (7,500 THB) and her student visa (25,000 THB). Horizon Asia has already paid the admission, tuition and insurance (127,500 THB) from its own funds so she could start on time. Donations reimburse that advance and cover the visa. The reimbursement is part of the 152,500 THB goal, not an extra cost.

What about the other three years of her degree?

Tuition is 95,000 THB a year, 380,000 THB for the full four-year degree. This fundraiser covers year 1. Each further year also needs a student visa renewal, expected at around 25,000 THB. We will publish an update here on what comes next as year 2 approaches. If gifts pass this goal, the extra stays dedicated to Cherry's degree.
