Our Programs
HAEA runs six education programs, all free to the student, across Thailand, Malaysia, and Myanmar migrant communities: Digital Education, English In-Person Classes in Koh Tao, Mentorship for Gifted Students, Skill Empowerment, Human Rights Workshops, and Educational Literature.
Digital Education
Free, volunteer-led Zoom classes in English, science, and literacy for students in rural Malaysia, Myanmar, and Thailand, including the Happy Readers literacy program run with Perak Women for Women (PWW). HAEA also supplies devices and solar charging equipment where power access is unreliable. Learn more →
English In-Person Classes, Koh Tao
Free group English classes and one-on-one tutoring for children and young adults, held at Wonderland Jungle Hostel in partnership with the hostel and Mee Fah ESL School. Learn more →
Mentorship for Gifted Students
One-on-one mentorship connecting exceptional students with educators worldwide, plus sponsored Outschool.com courses and fully-sponsored international study trips. Learn more →
Skill Empowerment
Swimming lessons with Koh Tao Swim, scuba certification with Mojo Divers, and arts, photography, and digital literacy instruction delivered in person or over Zoom. Learn more →
Human Rights Workshops
Interactive workshops for students aged 8–16 in Malaysia and Thailand, delivered with local NGO partners and translated into Malay and Thai, introducing figures including Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., Malala Yousafzai, Rosa Parks, and Nelson Mandela. Learn more →
Educational Literature
The “Exploration and Discovery” book series, written for ESL learners and covering biology, physics, astronomy, and geography, grew out of fieldwork with Malaysia’s Semai community. All profits fund HAEA’s other programs.

Who can join HAEA’s programs?
Students in HAEA’s partner communities in Thailand, Malaysia, and Myanmar migrant communities, generally reached through our on-the-ground partners — Wonderland Jungle Hostel in Koh Tao, Perak Women for Women in Ipoh, and SUKA Society in Malaysia’s indigenous communities.
How much do the programs cost students?
Nothing. Every HAEA program is free to the student, funded by donors and by direct bookings at Wonderland Jungle Hostel.
What languages are classes taught in?
Classes are taught in English, since English proficiency is the core skill most programs build toward. Materials for the Human Rights Workshops are also translated into Malay and Thai.
