Care and Rehabilitation for Kin Nage
Kin Nage, 24, is from Myanmar and lives with his family on Koh Tao, Thailand. In July 2026 he survived a stab wound to the neck. Today he is awake, but cannot move his right arm or leg and is fed through a tube. We are raising THB 150,000 for his safe transfer to a mainland care facility and his first three months of professional nursing care and physiotherapy.

Kin Nage’s story
What happened
In early July 2026, Kin Nage was attacked at his home on Koh Tao and stabbed in the neck. A suspect was arrested.
The wound damaged a major artery in his neck and caused bleeding around his brain. He was transferred to hospital in Surat Thani for surgery. In the weeks that followed he needed a ventilator and a tracheostomy (a breathing tube placed in the throat), and he developed pneumonia. He came through the surgery and all of these complications.
His family has not received compensation that could cover his continuing care.
Where Kin Nage is today
Kin Nage is conscious and communicates with his family. He wants to read, spend time with people and take part in the life around him.
- He cannot currently move his right arm or right leg. In an August medical assessment, his left side had full strength.
- He is bedridden and cannot sit. His doctor has instructed that he must lie flat when he travels.
- He is fed through a nasogastric tube, a tube that runs through the nose into the stomach.
- He became extremely thin after coming home to Koh Tao.
- He depends on others for feeding, medication, washing, toileting and being turned in bed.
His long-term recovery is uncertain. Rehabilitation may take a long time, and no one can promise how much movement he will regain. The immediate goal is safe care, enough nutrition and consistent rehabilitation.
Care at home
What a home visit found
After hospital, Kin Nage came home to his family’s one-room home on Koh Tao. He is prescribed an adult medical nutrition formula through his feeding tube.
When a doctor recently visited him at home, it became clear he had been getting far less than prescribed: 6 scoops, 3 times a day, instead of 9 scoops, 4 times a day. That is half his daily amount. The doctor corrected the plan, and he is now fed the prescribed amount. Correcting it was urgent and may matter a great deal for his health.
His family has cared for him every day since he came home. They were suddenly expected to provide highly technical care in a one-room home, without nursing training or professional support. Misreading a feeding plan under those conditions says nothing about their love or effort. It shows that his care needs are beyond what an untrained family can safely manage at home.
The move
Why he needs professional care now
Kin Nage needs skilled help every day with:
- feeding, hydration and medication
- hygiene and toileting
- turning and repositioning to prevent pressure sores
- safe transfers in and out of bed
- monitoring of his condition
- physiotherapy and rehabilitation
- hospital follow-up when he needs it
His family cannot safely provide all of this alone. Horizon Asia has therefore arranged a place for him at a professional residential nursing and rehabilitation facility on the Thai mainland. It is a care home, not a hospital. We do not publish its name, to protect Kin Nage’s privacy while he lives there. Donors can ask us about it at info@horizonasia.org.
The plan
The first three months
- Residential nursing and rehabilitation care: THB 20,500 a month. The facility describes this to us as an all-inclusive residential care package, including a short basic physiotherapy session.
- Five extra private physiotherapy sessions a week: one hour each, THB 500 per session, on top of the basic sessions included in the package.
- Hospital follow-up when needed: the facility has no resident doctor. Its staff arrange hospital visits when he needs them. Those visits, the transport to them and his medicines cost extra.
- Family and language: Burmese-speaking staff can talk with Kin Nage directly, and his sister can stay with him.
What the extra physiotherapy is for: keeping his joints moving, preventing contractures (joints that stiffen and shorten), keeping strength where possible, improving positioning and safe transfers, and supporting his neurological rehabilitation. It gives him the best reasonable opportunity to regain function. It is not a promise that he will move his right side again.
Transport
Getting him off Koh Tao safely
Koh Tao is an island, and the way to the mainland is by boat. For Kin Nage that is hard: he cannot sit, his doctor says he must lie flat, and he needs medical staff with him the whole way. A clinic on Koh Tao is coordinating a medically supported transfer:
- A clinic medical team takes him from home to the pier.
- Clinic staff stay with him on the ferry. He travels lying flat on a stretcher, and the ferry operator has confirmed it can make suitable space for him.
- An ambulance takes him from the mainland pier to the care facility.
The travel day depends on sea conditions, which have recently been rough, and on his condition that morning. He will arrive on the Surat Thani side, where an ambulance takes him to the facility. We will confirm the transfer in the updates once he has arrived.

Why THB 150,000, not only the known costs
We already know the major costs. But the facility does not provide specialist hospital treatment, and in these first months Kin Nage may need hospital reviews, blood tests and other investigations, ambulance trips, medicines, feeding supplies and other medical consumables. The transport plan may also change with the weather. The reserve lets us respond to real medical needs without interrupting his care. We report what it is spent on in the updates.

Why three months, and what comes after
Three months is the first structured stage of his care, not a recovery timeline. It gives Kin Nage safe nursing, correct nutrition, consistent physiotherapy and hospital follow-up while the facility’s staff see how he responds.
Before the three months end, Horizon Asia will review his progress and needs with the facility and his family, publish what we learn here, and explain what the next stage requires.

Kin Nage lives on Koh Tao with his family. They have very limited means and have been living in a small, crowded one-room home. Since July they have looked after him around their own daily lives. During his first months of professional care, his sister will be able to stay at his side.

The travel day depends on the sea and on his condition.

- Horizon Asia Educational Association, a registered Austrian association (ZVR 1754047403) that provides free education in Thailand and Malaysia and works with Myanmar migrant communities, including on Koh Tao.
- How we met Kin Nage's family: through our community work on Koh Tao.
- What we have done: arranged a medical reassessment at home, helped correct his feeding plan, researched professional care options and chosen a facility, and started coordinating his transport.
- What we will do: fund and coordinate his first three months of care, stay in contact with the facility and his family, track every baht spent from this campaign, and publish dated updates with spending.
- What we are not: doctors. Medical decisions stay with his doctors and the facility's care staff. We coordinate and fund his care.
- Consent: Kin Nage and his family have given Horizon Asia permission to share his name, photographs, story and medical situation. We publish no personal ID numbers or medical record details.
How donations are used: donations raised through this campaign are used for Kin Nage's care, rehabilitation and directly related support. If individual costs come in different from our estimates, the money stays available for his necessary care, rehabilitation, medical transport and related needs. Anything raised beyond this first stage stays dedicated to Kin Nage's longer-term care and support, which he will need well beyond three months.
Questions, answered
Will three months be enough for him to recover?
No one can promise that, and we will not. Three months is the first stage: safe care, correct nutrition, consistent physiotherapy and hospital follow-up. His longer-term needs will be reassessed before it ends, and we will publish that assessment here.
Is the care facility a hospital?
No. It is a professional residential nursing and rehabilitation facility. There is no resident doctor providing continuous specialist treatment. When Kin Nage needs a doctor, staff arrange a hospital visit, which is why the budget includes a medical reserve.
Why raise THB 150,000 if the known costs are lower?
The known and estimated costs are about THB 112,500 plus the ferry tickets. The remaining THB 37,500 covers the ferry tickets and is a medical and contingency reserve for costs we cannot price in advance: hospital appointments, tests, ambulance trips, medicines, feeding supplies and changes to the transport plan. Every use of the reserve is reported in the updates.
Why is an education association running a medical fundraiser?
Kin Nage's family is part of the Myanmar community on Koh Tao where we work. When we saw how serious his situation had become, we took on coordinating his care. Donations to this campaign go to his care and are accounted for separately from our education programmes.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
No. Horizon Asia Educational Association is a registered Austrian association (ZVR 1754047403), and donations are not tax-deductible in Austria. What you get instead is transparency: this page shows what your money funds, and the updates show what it was spent on.
Can I give in euros, dollars or pounds?
