Care and Rehabilitation for Kin Nage
Kin Nage, 24, is from Myanmar and lives with his family on Koh Tao, Thailand. In July 2026, he survived a violent attack in which he was stabbed in the neck, leaving him with severe neurological injuries.
Today, Kin is awake and aware, but cannot move his right arm or leg and is fed through a tube. He is now in a nursing home in Surat Thani receiving professional nursing care and physiotherapy.
We are raising THB 150,000 to cover his medical transfer and first three months of nursing care and rehabilitation.

Kin Nage’s story
What happened
Kin was attacked at his home on Koh Tao and stabbed in the neck. The injury damaged a major artery and caused bleeding around his brain.
He required emergency surgery, a ventilator and a tracheostomy, and later developed pneumonia.
He survived. Now the challenge is helping him recover.
His family cannot afford the substantial cost of the long-term nursing care and rehabilitation he now needs. We are also helping them pursue any government support and compensation available to him, but his care needs to be paid for now.
Where Kin Nage is today
Kin Nage is conscious and communicates with his family. He wants to read, spend time with people and take part in the life around him.
- He cannot currently move his right arm or right leg. In an August medical assessment, his left side had full strength.
- At home he was bedridden and could not sit up. At the care facility, staff now help him sit on the edge of his bed during physiotherapy.
- He is fed through a nasogastric tube, a tube that runs through the nose into the stomach.
- He depends on others for feeding, medication, washing, toileting and being turned in bed.

Why home care was no longer enough
After hospital, Kin Nage came home to his family’s one-room home on Koh Tao. His family took on his care every day: tube feeding, medication, hygiene and turning him in bed, without nursing training or professional support.
Tube feeding, medication and rehabilitation are skilled nursing work. No family should have to carry this alone, and his care now needs professionals.

Why he needs professional care now
Kin Nage needs skilled help every day with:
- feeding, hydration and medication
- hygiene and toileting
- turning and repositioning to prevent pressure sores
- safe transfers in and out of bed
- monitoring of his condition
- physiotherapy and rehabilitation
- hospital follow-up when he needs it
His family cannot safely provide all of this alone. Horizon Asia has therefore arranged a place for him at a professional residential nursing and rehabilitation facility in Surat Thani.
The plan
The first three months
- Residential nursing and rehabilitation care: THB 20,500 a month. The facility describes this to us as an all-inclusive residential care package, including a short basic physiotherapy session.
- Additional private physiotherapy: THB 700 per one-hour session.
- Hospital care when needed: when Kin needs a doctor’s assessment or specialist treatment, he is taken to hospital. These costs are covered from the additional medical expenses.

Getting him safely to professional care
Because Koh Tao is an island, moving Kin to appropriate care in Surat Thani required a medically supported transfer by ambulance, ferry and medical staff. He had to travel lying flat on a stretcher with medical supervision throughout the journey.
He arrived safely at the nursing facility in September 2026.

Kin Nage and his family
Kin lived on Koh Tao with his mother, his sister and her two young children in a tiny one-room home without a private kitchen or bathroom.
Both Kin and his sister worked hard to support their family.
Before the attack, Kin was also sending money home to Myanmar to help support his brother, who has a disability.
Since the attack, everything has changed. Kin can no longer work, and his sister has had to leave her job to care for him full-time.
Their elderly mother, who works as a cleaner, is now the family’s only working member, supporting the household in Thailand while also helping her disabled son in Myanmar.
Kin’s sister has stayed by his side throughout his recovery and continues to care for him every day.

Kin is getting stronger
Kin looks healthier and his colour has improved. He is tolerating his full nutrition, and his left hand and arm are getting stronger: he can now hold and use his e-book for longer.
Light and sound used to be uncomfortable for him. Today he could comfortably look at and use a phone.
And today, with support during physiotherapy, Kin stood up.

Kin arrives at the care facility
Kin has safely arrived at the nursing facility in Surat Thani and is settling in well.
He is receiving 24-hour professional care, his nutrition is being closely managed, and physiotherapy has begun.
With support, he is now able to sit upright at the edge of his bed.

Who is running this fundraiser
Horizon Asia Educational Association (ZVR 1754047403) is a registered Austrian non-profit association providing free education and community support in Thailand and Malaysia, including work with Myanmar migrant communities on Koh Tao.
We met Kin and his family through our community work on Koh Tao. Since his injury, we have helped the family arrange medical reassessment, professional nursing care, rehabilitation and his transfer to Surat Thani.
We remain in direct contact with Kin, his family and the care facility.
All donations from this campaign are dedicated to Kin's care and directly related needs. We track campaign spending and will publish updates on his progress and how funds are used. If costs differ from current estimates or funds remain after this initial three-month period, they will stay dedicated to Kin's continuing care, rehabilitation and medical needs.

Questions, answered
Will three months be enough for him to recover?
No one can predict how long Kin's recovery will take. These three months are the first stage of his care and rehabilitation.
Before that period ends, we will reassess his needs. If he still requires funded care, we may launch a second stage of the fundraiser. If by then his family has secured sufficient government compensation or other financial support, another fundraising stage may not be necessary.
Is the care facility a hospital?
No. It is a professional residential nursing facility providing 24-hour care and rehabilitation. When Kin needs a doctor's assessment or specialist treatment, he is taken to hospital.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
