Cherry’s story
Meet Cherry
Read the full story: Cherry Earned Her GED
Cherry is a student from Myanmar living in the student dorm at Wonderland Jungle Hostel on Koh Tao, Thailand. Her family fled the war in Myanmar, and formal Thai secondary schooling has not been a realistic path for her as a refugee. So she built her own.
4 years of study with Horizon Asia: English, Science, Math, and Social Studies, all working toward the GED, the internationally recognised high school equivalency that opens the door to university.
She passed her GED Ready assessments in all 4 subjects, then the official GED exams. Her High School Equivalency Credential is dated 14 September 2026. Alongside her own studies, Cherry volunteers as a teacher, helping younger children in her community learn.
“I want to finish my GED so I can build a better future. Even if I cannot attend school, I won’t stop learning.”
Cherry, before her exams
Her parents have been saving for years and have contributed 36,000 THB toward her education.
She completed the Intensive GED Preparation Program at House of Griffin, Bangkok’s GED Cert Centre. Next, she is applying to university in Bangkok.
What your donations funded
Donors funded 3 things:
- The full preparation course at House of Griffin (Bangkok GED Cert Centre)
- Study materials for all 4 GED subjects
- Official exam fees: Mathematical Reasoning, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies
Donations above the goal covered her travel to Bangkok to sit her exams.
Every donation goes directly and entirely to Cherry’s education.

FAQ
What does this fundraiser pay for, exactly?
The 60,000 THB goal covers Cherry's GED preparation course at House of Griffin, her learning materials, and the official GED exam fees for all four subjects. Her family has already contributed 36,000 THB toward her education. Donors took the campaign past its goal; the extra covered her travel to Bangkok for the exams, and further gifts continue to fund her education directly.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
No. Horizon Asia Educational Association is a registered Austrian association (ZVR 1754047403), and donations are not tax-deductible in Austria. What you get instead is transparency: this page shows exactly what your money funds.
Can I change or cancel a monthly gift?
Yes, anytime. Donorbox, our payment provider, lets you manage your gift yourself, or email info@horizonasia.org and we will sort it out.
Who runs this fundraiser?
Horizon Asia Educational Association (HAEA), a nonprofit registered in Austria providing free education across Thailand, Malaysia, and Myanmar migrant communities. Wonderland Jungle Hostel on Koh Tao is our base of operations and houses our student dorm.
Back the next student, every month
Cherry's GED is done. Twelve children learn with Horizon Asia every week at Koh Tao, and a monthly gift is what keeps that steady. If you would rather not give, sharing this page multiplies its reach.
