Cherry Earned Her GED

Student outcome

• 14 September 2026
• Koh Tao, Thailand
• All 4 subjects

Cherry has earned her GED. On 14 September 2026 she was awarded her High School Equivalency Credential, the internationally recognised qualification that opens the door to university.

She passed all four GED subjects: Mathematical Reasoning, Reasoning Through Language Arts, Science and Social Studies.

Four years of work

Cherry is a student from Myanmar who lives in the student dorm at Wonderland Jungle Hostel on Koh Tao. Formal school was not open to her, so she built her own path. For four years she studied English, Science, Math and Social Studies with Horizon Asia, passed her GED Ready assessments in all four subjects, and then sat the official exams in Bangkok. Alongside her own studies, she volunteers as a teacher for younger children in her community.

“I want to finish my GED so I can build a better future. Even if I cannot attend school, I won’t stop learning.”

What you funded

Donors funded Cherry’s THB 60,000 goal in full. Her family contributed THB 36,000. Your gifts paid for:

• the Intensive GED Preparation Program at House of Griffin, Bangkok’s GED Cert Centre
• study materials for all four subjects
• her official GED exam fees

Donations above the goal covered her travel to Bangkok to sit her exams.

To everyone who gave: you funded her prep course and her exams. Cherry did the rest.
