Vanisa’s story
Meet Vanisa
Vanisa, 14, is part of an Orang Asli indigenous community in Perak, Malaysia, where long-term, structured education is hard to reach. She has spent the last 2 years proving how far she can take it.
In 2022, Vanisa stood out among 87 students in HAEA’s Perak program with the highest learning progress. When the in-person program ended, she kept studying remotely.
To join online classes she regularly walked several kilometres to find a stable 4G signal, then walked further to charge her study tablet. Nobody asked that of her. She chose it.
“I want to improve my English so I can continue my studies and support myself in the future.”
Vanisa
Starting from no English at all, Vanisa reached B2 level and completed her first ESL certificate at Mee Fah Language School in 2024. She is now studying all 4 GED subjects.
Her next step: a 1-year advanced academic English program at Mee Fah in Koh Tao, Thailand, February 2026 to February 2027, taking her from B2 to C1, the level she needs for her full potential in the GED exams.
The program includes an official Education (ED) visa, legal student residency for the study period. HAEA continues to cover her accommodation, daily living costs, travel, and mentorship throughout.
