Cherry Koe is going to university. A month after earning her GED, she has been accepted to Kasem Bundit University in Bangkok for a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering, a four-year degree taught in English. Her first class is on 26 October 2026.
Cherry chose civil engineering because she wants to help build up her community back home in Myanmar one day.
How she got here
Cherry is 18 and from Myanmar. She grew up learning in the student dorm at Wonderland Jungle Hostel on Koh Tao and studied English, Science, Math and Social Studies with Horizon Asia for four years. Alongside her own studies, she volunteers as a teacher for younger children.
Donors funded her THB 60,000 GED goal, and her family contributed THB 36,000. That paid for the Intensive GED Preparation Program at House of Griffin in Bangkok, her study materials and her exam fees. On 14 September 2026 she passed all four GED subjects and earned her High School Equivalency Credential. Read the GED story.
“I want to finish my GED so I can build a better future. Even if I cannot attend school, I won’t stop learning.”

Her first year, in numbers
We are raising 152,500 THB for Cherry’s first year:
- international admission fee: 25,000 THB
- first-year tuition: 95,000 THB
- one year of health insurance: 7,500 THB
- her student visa: 25,000 THB
So that Cherry could start on time, Horizon Asia paid her first instalment of 55,000 THB from its own funds. The second payment of 72,500 THB is due on her first day of classes. Your gift covers it, completes her first year, and refills the fund that made her start possible.
A monthly gift keeps her degree on track year after year. Every donation goes directly and entirely to Cherry’s education.
