New Science and Geography Zoom Classes for Semai Kids

Dec 2, 2021 | News

At the Horizon Asia Education Association (HAEA), a volunteer-driven initiative committed to empowering underserved communities through education, we are dedicated to providing comprehensive educational opportunities that cater to the unique needs of our students. In December 2021, we launched an exciting new initiative: science and geography Zoom classes for the Semai children of Pos Woh village in Malaysia. These classes are designed to ensure that even children who have never attended school can understand fundamental concepts in biology, physics, and astronomy.

Tailored Education for Diverse Learning Levels

The classes are held twice a week and are carefully tailored to the learning levels of the students. Recognizing the diverse educational backgrounds of the children, our team designs all materials from scratch, ensuring they are accessible and engaging. Our goal is to make complex scientific concepts understandable and interesting for all students, regardless of their prior knowledge or experience.

Bridging Language Barriers with Volunteer Teachers

One of the key elements of this program is the involvement of our Semai/English-speaking volunteer teachers. These dedicated volunteers play a crucial role in translating the lessons and making sure that the students fully comprehend the material. Their bilingual capabilities help bridge any language barriers, allowing for a smoother and more effective learning experience.

Igniting Curiosity in Science and Astronomy

The classes cover a wide range of topics within biology, physics, and astronomy. From understanding the basics of plant life and ecosystems to exploring the mysteries of the cosmos, these lessons ignite curiosity and foster a love for science. The interactive nature of the Zoom platform also allows students to ask questions and engage in discussions, further enhancing their learning experience.

Significant Impact on the Semai Community

The impact of these classes has been profound. Many of the Semai children, who previously had limited exposure to formal education, are now eagerly participating in these sessions. Their growing interest in science and geography is evident, and their understanding of these subjects has significantly improved. This initiative not only equips them with valuable knowledge but also empowers them to think critically and explore the world around them with curiosity and confidence.

Committed to Expanding Educational Opportunities

We are incredibly proud of the progress our students have made and are committed to continuing this program. The positive feedback from both students and parents underscores the importance of providing such educational opportunities. As we look to the future, we aim to expand our curriculum and introduce even more subjects that can further enrich the learning experiences of the Semai children.
