Supporting Vanisa’s Journey to Higher Education
Vanisa is a 14-year-old Orang Asli student from Malaysia, part of an indigenous community where access to long-term, structured education is extremely limited.
She has been enrolled in the Horizon Asia Educational Association (HAEA) program for over two years. During this time, Vanisa began learning English from absolute zero and, through consistent study with dedicated volunteer teachers, progressed to a B2 level in ESL — a remarkable achievement that reflects years of discipline and perseverance.
Alongside English, Vanisa is already preparing for her GED, studying Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA) under the HAEA education umbrella. HAEA continues to support her through structured teaching, mentoring, and daily academic guidance.
Now, Vanisa is ready for the next critical step in her education: strengthening her English to an advanced academic level.
In 2024, Vanisa completed a short introductory ESL course at Mee Fah Language School in Koh Tao and received her first-ever ESL certificate. That program focused on foundational language skills. The course proposed in this fundraiser is a one-year, advanced academic English program, designed to take her from B2 to C1 level, which is essential for strong performance in GED exams and future formal study.
To perform strongly in the GED exams, Vanisa needs to reach C1 English proficiency. This requires a formal, immersive, and accredited language program supported by an official Education (ED) visa. While HAEA continues to provide subject-level education, this language course is the missing academic foundation — providing the vocabulary depth, reading precision, academic writing skills, and exam-level comprehension she needs to perform at her full potential.
- • Student: Vanisa (Orang Asli, Malaysia)
- • School: Mee Fah Language School in Koh Tao
- • Program: Accredited English language course + Education (ED) visa
- • Study Period: February 2026 – February 2027
- • Goal: Progress from B2 to C1 English to maximize GED performance and future academic options
Throughout this period, HAEA will continue to fully support Vanisa by covering accommodation, daily living expenses, travel costs, and ongoing academic mentorship.
We are seeking support specifically to cover the educational and legal requirements needed to make this program possible.
To fully fund this step, we are raising
69,510 THB (≈ $1,970 USD) to cover language course tuition, education visa processing, learning materials, and administrative costs.
Every donation goes directly and entirely to Vanisa’s education.
This support is not about starting education — it is about ensuring success. Achieving C1 English will allow Vanisa to sit her GED exams with confidence and pursue higher education or vocational training legally and independently.
By supporting this final step, you are helping turn years of learning into lasting opportunity.
Thank you for standing with Vanisa and being part of her educational journey.

Meet Vanisa
Vanisa is a motivated and thoughtful young student from Malaysia and a member of the Orang Asli, the indigenous peoples of the region. Like many indigenous students, she grew up with limited access to structured education and long-term academic pathways.
Despite these barriers, Vanisa has consistently shown exceptional commitment to learning.
In 2022, during an HAEA educational program in Pos Woh village, Perak, Vanisa stood out among 87 indigenous students as having the highest learning progress and academic engagement. When the in-person program ended, she chose to continue her studies remotely, despite extremely challenging conditions.
To attend online classes, Vanisa regularly walked several kilometres to find a location with a stable 4G signal, and then walked several kilometres more to charge the tablet that HAEA had sourced for her studies. This level of dedication was not required of her — it was a choice she made because education mattered to her.
Through Horizon Asia, Vanisa has since been supported in building educational stability and preparing for her next academic step. She is now ready to enter a formal, accredited language program that provides both advanced English education and legal student residency — a critical foundation for achieving her GED learning goals.
Vanisa’s Story
Vanisa’s educational journey has been shaped by structural barriers rather than lack of ability or motivation. Access to recognised certification, legal study options, and continuous academic support has been limited.
Acceptance into Mee Fah Language School will allow Vanisa to legally remain in Thailand under an Education (ED) visa while developing advanced academic English in a structured, supportive environment. This step is essential for her to perform strongly in GED exams and access further education or vocational training.
This opportunity opens the door to long-term independence and self-sufficiency — outcomes that are rarely achievable without sustained educational support.
Quote from Vanisa
“I want to improve my English so I can continue my studies and support myself in the future.”
Your support helps Vanisa access legal education, academic stability, and a future shaped by choice — not circumstance.
