ESL Classes in Rural Russia
The Horizon Asia Education Association (HAEA), a volunteer-driven initiative committed to empowering underserved communities through education, has always believed in the transformative power of learning. Our commitment to bringing English language education to remote areas extends beyond Asia. From September 2021 to March 2022, HAEA embarked on a mission to provide ESL tutoring to children in the Irbit district of the Ural Mountains in rural Russia.
Teaching English to Open New Opportunities
Our initiative aimed to teach English to children in the community, giving them a valuable skill set that would open up new opportunities for their future. These classes were conducted four times a week, and the enthusiastic participation of the local kids was heartwarming. The community welcomed our efforts, and the children showed remarkable progress in their language skills.
Challenges and Commitment to Safety
We were in the process of establishing a non-profit English school specifically designed to serve everyone in the community. However, due to unforeseen changes in the geopolitical landscape, HAEA had to make the difficult decision to leave the country for the safety of our volunteers and staff.
Lasting Impact and Hope for the Future
Despite the sudden halt of our program, the impact of our ESL classes during those months was profound. The children not only gained new language skills but also experienced the joy and confidence that comes with learning. Our brief time in Irbit reinforced our belief in the importance of educational outreach and the resilience of young learners.
HAEA remains committed to its mission of providing quality education to underprivileged communities. We look forward to the day when we can return to Russia and fulfill our promise to the children of Irbit. Until then, we continue to support educational initiatives wherever there is a need, spreading hope and knowledge across the globe.

Maroezka Williams: A Legendary ESL Teacher Who Made Learning Fun for Our Students
We are thrilled to celebrate the incredible contributions of Maroezka Williams, an ESL volunteer teacher at Horizon Asia Educational Association (HAEA). With her creative and engaging teaching methods, Maroezka made learning English fun and accessible for students from Malaysia, Myanmar, and Thailand at Wonderland Jungle Hostel.
